Sept 14th & 15th Cedar City to Panguitch

This may have been our best day of biking yet! While we had 20 miles of steep uphills in the morning, we entered the most beautiful part of Utah called Cedar Breaks. At 10,350 feet, Cedar Breaks features a spectacular amphitheater of walls, fins, spires, and columns, eroded out of Claron limestone.

The next reward for our 3 hour climb was approximately 37 miles of downhill biking. The winds at the top were somewhat scary because the roads were windy and it was hard to tell what direction the very strong winds would be coming from. Doug saw one biker that had been blown over by the wind.

Riding into Panguitch was so delightful, scenic and easy. We enjoyed a near cloudless sky and perfect temperatures. We had dinner at a local BBQ place that had NOTHING on KC BBQ! It is so interesting listening to all the world's languages in the middle of Utah. Many times I feel we are in the minority.

Today (Sept. 15th) is a rest day. Time for laundry, bike maintenance, but most of all, a trip to Bryce Canyon to hike and take hundreds of pictures. Established in 1923, Bryce is best known for its beautiful and bizarre rock spires called hoodoos and the dark night sky. It is named after Ebenezer and Mary Bryce who lived in the area from 1875-1880 and aided in the settlement of southwestern Utah.

Our "shout out" tonight is to Sara and Sean Bess (Debra's niece and husband) who just found out they are having TWINS in March! You go, baby-makers! We'll be working on names for you as we pedal along.
