Larned to Heston Oct 2nd

Today's breaking story is - wind! (not breaking wind, but relentless wind). Less than 5 miles out from Larned, we met 2 semi trucks that literally suck us out into the middle of the highway. We all fought to keep our bikes upright, but were unable to resist the pull. Fortunately, there was nothing coming up behind us at the moment or we would have looked like the road kill we saw all day! We pushed on with no more such dramatic experiences, but all agreed we had enjoyed enough fun when the ride was done (60 miles). A highlight of today's ride was meeting two young men cyclists from upstate New York. They were biking to Salt Lake City where they planned to spend the winter on the slopes. We challenged them to catch the young women from New York we had met a couple of days ago and had our picture taken with. They were already on their trail and had actually heard of us as well. There seems to be a network among transAmerica cyclists where everyone knows everyone else on the route.
