Day !

What a perfect day to bike! Cloudless, windless, chilly am, warmish pm. Debra, Mary, Margi & Nancy set out with abundant support from Jim and Doug. Breakfast at the Santa Cruz diner with Jamie almost did us in!

A bright sunny day, sometimes a breeze to our backs, fall down gorgeous scenery, fruit, olives, and vineyards all over the place, how could we not have a great day. Of course, the fact that we are old and out of shape did try to put a dent in our day, we just overcame that in spite of ourselves.

We had many thoughts of Tedd and his adventure, it felt like he was with us in spirit for now. Belated Happy Birthday to our pal, Bill.

The BOYS could not have been more fabulous, everywhere, there they were with whatever we desired. They even bought us peaches, even though they need to ripen a bit.

Bimbo One gives this ride a 9.5 out of 10 for a "bim" rating (That's bikes in motion). It was a great day of biking! The room gets an 8 out of 10 - very nice! Day one is done with a total of 65 miles!

This One Is For Tedd

This morning we heard the very sad news that the son of our dear friends, Nancy and Bill Hamaker, lost his courageous battle with cancer. Tedd was a very upbeat, positive person who, in a way, inspired us to take on our challenge. Tedd and a few college buddies crossed the US on bicycles over 20 years ago. His tales of their adventures inspired us to follow in his path. Along the way we hope to mirror Ted's positive attitude and adventurous spirit.

THE EASY WAY

After some tough climbs on Thursday, Our friend from Port T0wnsend, Les, showed up for a visit and let me experience the easy way to climb these mountains!

hill training in Colorado

We've been in Colorado all week and I've been doing a little hill training. Here I'm biking up to the top of Cascade Falls. Between the grade and the altitude, I was pretty spent. Hopefully, I'll be better trained when we hit these Colorado hills again.

Below you may notice the itinerary has been changed. Basically we've doubled the rest days from 4 to 8. Considering our ages and lack of training, we thought it wise. Also, we're going to be going through some gorgeous countryside and might as well enjoy it. There will probably be future adjustments. One thing that will NOT change is our scheduled two nights in Teluride. That was our most expensive lodging and if we don't show they keep all the money. Attempting to get our act together

We met last night at Margi's for a great dinner and a planning meeting. There's a lot still up in the air, but we do have a few things worked out. We roughly know our schedule. Check back in a day or so for a list of overnight towns and dates.

Blog try #2

Well, friends and family, we're on our second blog and we haven't even left town yet. We're all busy getting our bikes adjusted and equipped with trunk packs and puncture-proof tires. Everyone asks if we're training. Who has time to train? I figure our training will come the first week or two we're on the ride. We'll keep you posted! Deb
